University announces July honours

An Olympic athlete and a leading UK judge are among the honorary award recipients meeting graduating students at the University of Bolton in July.
The nine recipients of Honorary Doctorates and Masters this year are: Director of Development and Regeneration for Bolton Council, Keith Davies; Deputy Lord Lieutenant, Rev Canon Paul Denby MBE JP DL; President of New York College, Elias Foutis; Olympic gold medal holder, Jason Kenny OBE; Solicitor, University of Bolton Governor and Chair of the Trustees of the University of Bolton Students’ Union, Neil Myerson; Deputy Vice Chancellor responsible for areas of strategic planning and performance at the University of Central Lancashire, Professor David Phoenix OBE; The Rt Hon Lord Justice Ryder, Lord Justice of Appeal in Ordinary, PC DL; Secretary for the Marriott Trust and Bolton Le Moors Rotarian, David Tomlinson; Bolton Councillor and former Mayor of Bolton, John Walsh OBE.
They will be honoured by the University at its degree congregation ceremonies on July 17, 18 and 19 when graduands, their friends and families will celebrate academic success.
Said Vice Chancellor of the University of Bolton, Dr George Holmes: ‘We will be delighted to welcome our honorary graduands to the University next month, to join us in the celebration of our students’ success at the degree congregation ceremonies.
Each of our honorary graduands has excelled in their professional and public life and all have also done so much for their communities, sharing a deep connection with our town and often with us as a University.’

Mr Keith Davies
Honorary Master of the University for his contribution to the town of Bolton
Mr Jason Kenny OBE
Honorary Doctorate of Science for his contribution to sport and in particular to the world of cycling
Rev Canon Paul Denby MBE JP DL
Honorary Doctorate of Divinity for his contribution to Bolton and the region
Mr Elias Foutsis
Honorary Doctorate of the University for his entrepreneurial approach to higher education and in particular the partnership with the University of Bolton
Mr Neil Myerson
Honorary Doctorate of Laws for his contribution to the University
The Rt Hon Lord Justice Ryder, Lord Justice of Appeal in Ordinary, PC DL
Honorary Doctorate of Laws for his contribution to the legal profession
Professor David Phoenix OBE
Honorary Doctorate of the University for his contribution to higher education, management and scholarship in the North West
Mr David Tomlinson
Honorary Doctorate of the University for his contribution to the reputation of the University
Mr John Walsh OBE
Honorary Doctorate of the University for his contribution to the town of Bolton.
