Frequently Asked Questions

If you have applied through UCAS this year, even if you are not holding any offers please DO NOT fill in a University of Bolton application form unless you are specifically asked to by a member of our Clearing team. Please read our application notes for UCAS applicants.

To make sure you can make an application through clearing please take a look at the below – if you have any questions, please call 01204 903030. Please take a look at the courses on offer before calling – although we can advise, we can’t choose a course for you.

Step by step guide

Clearing is for students who have not yet received a place at university. This could be for a number of reasons - you may be applying through UCAS after the 30th June; you might be having a change of heart about your university choice or you may not have been able to meet the conditions of your original offer as your results may not be as good you'd have hoped.
•Your UCAS number (if you've applied through UCAS)
•A list of your qualifications (including GCSEs)
•Pen and paper
Yes – we will need your permission to do this though so please be available to jump on the phone for a minute to give permission.
After speaking with a member of the clearing team you may receive a verbal offer of a place on a course – this cannot be made official until a formal application has been made. Please follow the instructions on how to apply on the emails that follow your call.
If you have already made an application through UCAS for this current academic year and are applying for a full time undergraduate course then yes, you will need to refer yourself through UCAS.
Unfortunately we can’t help with this – you will need to contact UCAS directly to sort this out.
You can only apply to one University for one course at once through clearing, to save time you will need to check that your course of choice is available through clearing at your chosen University.
After you refer through UCAS Track we can then start processing your application. Please check your emails and Track for any updates.
You’ll also receive emails from us letting you know about what’s happening at the University, what you need to be doing, and extra information about your course of choice.
If you have qualifications to send in to us please email copies of them to – this is the quickest way to get them to us, if you can’t email them then you can either bring them into the student centre, or post them to:
University of Bolton
Deane road
Please do not post originals.
We’re holding 2 dedicated Open Days in August for you to visit the campus and find out more about where you may be studying next month. They both run between 9am and 3pm and offer you the opportunity to take a student led tour of the campus, halls and of Bolton.
Friday 18 August and Saturday 19 August
Please click here to book your place or to book a campus tour.
Yes of course you can! All the Programme Leaders’ contact details are available online under the ‘how to apply’ tab of the course pages. There will also be a tutor available from each subject area at each of the open days.
If you have an additional need and didn’t declare this on your application form, please let us know as soon as possible. Declaring a disability does not impact your application in any way – it allows us to offer support to you as soon as possible. Our Disability Team can discuss different options for you, please get in touch at or call 01204 903478.
We’ll send enrolment instructions out from mid-August so please keep checking your inbox and junk mail folder for these.
Freshers’ week will be in mid-September after enrolment. We’ll send out information about Freshers’ week in August. This is organised by the Students’ Union and has both daytime and evening events.
