Admissions Arrangements for 2020 undergraduate entry

Each year the university carefully reviews its admissions arrangements for the next academic year’s intake. In making decisions about admissions arrangements, we consider a range of factors including: academic performance of students recently joining the university, the external environment in which we are operating and feedback from students and schools and colleges.

The following arrangements are in place for entrants joining the university from September 2020.

Understanding more about you

We recognise that all our applicants are different and are seeking to join the university from a range of backgrounds and educational routes. In making our decision on your suitability to study at the university and the offer that we make to you, we will look at all the information available to us via your application form and we may contact you to discuss your application in more detail. Some of our courses require a face-to-face interview, whereas others we may wish to speak with you on the telephone.

The offer we will make you

If you are still working towards your qualifications you will be made a conditional offer. At the University of Bolton, we do not make unconditional offers on predicted grades. We want you to do the best you can and we do not think unconditional offers are in the students’ best interests.

For some of our courses, we may make you a ‘better’ offer which requires fewer UCAS points than we have previously published. This offer will be based your application, our discussions with you and on your predicted grades. If we make you a ‘better’ offer we are confident that you have the talent and potential to succeed on the course and we hope that this will take some pressure off your final assessments and make studying with us more achievable.

Rewarding excellent performance

To encourage you to do your best, for 2020 entry we are offering the Vice-Chancellors Scholarship. This is worth an additional £850 on your #uniasitshouldbe card (in addition to the £150 that you will automatically get) to those students achieving 128 or more UCAS points in assessments taken during academic year 2019/20.

The University of Bolton’s Admissions Policy can be found in the Student Policy Zone. The policy includes important information about our admissions principles and our decision making process such as; how we assess applications; entry requirements; how we’ll communicate with you and your responsibilities in the process. We encourage all future students to read this before they apply to the University.

Your contract with the University: When we make you an offer to study at the University we are preparing to enter into a contract with you. This contract will be updated throughout different stages of the admissions process and during your time as a student with us.

Information contained within your offer and enrolment letters form an essential part of this contract along with information contained in the following key documents which applicants and students should ensure they have read and understood before accepting an offer and enrolling with the University. The Conditions of Enrolment and Course Fees Policy can be found in the Student Policy Zone.

Complaints and appeals for applicants: If you are unhappy with the way your application has been handled or wish to request a review of the decision made on your application then you should contact the Admissions Team in the first instance. If you are still not happy then should consult the Complaints and Appeals Process for Applicants which can be found in the Student Policy Zone.

Enrolment Cancellation: If you have already enrolled but are for some reason unhappy with your decision, you have a 14 days to cancel your enrolment. We would actively encourage you to discuss this decision with your Personal Tutor or with a Student Advisor, but if you still wish to go ahead with the cancellation, the Enrolment Cancellation Form can be found in the Student Policy Zone.

Additional Policies: All other policies which relate to your studies with the University of Bolton, such as student accommodation, the library code of conduct and exam procedures can be found in the Student Policy Zone.
