The Self-Service machines in the Library allow you to issue, return and renew your own library items and also check your Library account. You can also top up your printing/photocopying credit, loan laptops and book Group Study Rooms.

Self issue and return of Library items

Simply place your ID card into the slot below the screen of the Self-Sevice machines and then follow the on screen instructions.

Please ask a member of staff if you require any assistance using the Self-Service machines.

You will not be able to use Self-Service if:

  • You have any overdue items
  • You owe any outstanding fines of £5 or more 
  • You have reached your maximum loan limit
  • Your card has expired

 

Self Renewals

You can renew library books on the Library Catalogue in the Library, from home and also on the Self-Service machines.

For further help pick up a leaflet in the Library or online.

 You will not be able to use Self-Renewals if:

  • You owe any outstanding fines of £5 or more 
  • You have reached your maximum loan limit
  • Your card has expired

Please note that self renewals from home are available between 00:15 and 23:45 on the same day.

 

Self Reservations

You can reserve library books on the Library Catalogue both in the Library and from home.

For further help pick up a leaflet in the Library or online.

When the item is returned to the library we will send you an email to your University email account to say that it is ready for collection from the Library Desk. You can also check the status of your reservation by clicking the My Account link on the Library Catalogue.

Please inform us if you change address, or if the address listed is not correct.

 

Pay Fines

Coins can be used to pay fines at the Self-Service machines. Please note that the machines do not give change directly. You can get change by giving in your receipt slip to the Library Desk.

 

Printing/photocopying credit

You can top up your printing/photocopying credit at the self-service machine in the Link Zone.

Simply follow the on screen instructions and insert the amount required. The machine accepts 5p, 10p, 20p, 50p, £1 £2 coins and notes.

Please note that although no change can be given at the machine you can obtain change at the either the Library or IT Support Desk.

 

Laptop Loans

The Library has sixty laptops available for short term loan during Library opening hours. To borrow a laptop visit the self-service cabinets within the Link Zone of the Library. You will need your Student ID card in order to borrow and return a laptop.

Students with outstanding library fines, invoices or other restrictions on their library account that prevent borrowing will not be able to use the service.

Please note that this service is not available to staff.
