UTC Bolton Access Scheme is an initiative to provide library access to the University of Bolton. It is a two fold scheme which enables all academic staff teaching and students studying in Upper School and the parents of Lower School students at UTC Bolton to use the facilities available in the Library at the University of Bolton.

For Upper School students and teaching staff, the Library will provide:

  • Access to all printed materials for reference
  • Borrowing of up to 3 standard loan items
  • Photocopying facilities
  • Study space
  • Selected electronic resources

Access to computing software and group study rooms is not available. UTC Bolton Upper School users are not able to access library services outside of staffed hours.

Please note that the Library does contain material which is unsuitable for children therefore applicants who are under the age of 18 must have their applications countersigned by a parent or guardian.

For parents of Lower School students, the Library will offer free external membership (normal fee, £50 per annum) which provides:

  • Access to all printed materials for reference
  • Borrowing of up to 5 standard loan items
  • Photocopying facilities
  • Study space

Access to computing software, electronic resources and group study rooms is not available. UTC Bolton parents are not able to access library services outside of staffed hours.

As UTC Bolton is ultimately responsible for any losses caused by their users, only users who have their application form endorsed by the Provost/CEO's office will have their applications approved.

Endorsed forms can be exchanged for a membership card at the Help Desk in the University Library but applications cannot be processed during busy periods such as lunch hours and the start of the academic year. Membership is granted for the duration of the academic year but, if you still meet the criteria for membership on expiry of your card, it can be extended for users in good standing with the Library, upon proof of entitlement and current address.

Members are subject to the Library rules and regulations, and are responsible for any fines or replacement costs incurred. Cards of users who infringe these rules can be withdrawn.
