Turnitin is the university’s adopted plagiarism detection software. It is likely that you will have to submit assignments via Turnitin as part of your studies. Moodle hosts Turnitin via a direct link so you don’t have to log into a different place to submit your assignments.

Assignments submitted are stored in a database used to check for plagiarism and for sources of work, texts etc. This helps prevent the use of one student's paper by another by identifying matching text between papers. It protects the student's intellectual property (or that of the university, in some cases) from plagiarism.

The University of Bolton is using the Turnitin Moodle Direct Integration. All work to be submitted should be done via Moodle.

Turnitin File Types And Size

Turnitin currently accepts the following file types for upload into an assignment:

  • Microsoft Word (DOC and DOCX)
  • Microsoft PowerPoint (PPT and PPTX)
  • Corel WordPerfect
  • HTML
  • Adobe PostScript
  • Plain text (TXT)
  • Rich Text Format (RTF)
  • Portable Document Format (PDF)

The file size may not exceed 20MB. Files of larger size may be reduced in size by removal of non-text content.
