A-level students offered chance to study in UAE
Friday 20 August 2010
A-level students who fail to get a university place in the UK this year are being offered the opportunity to study full-time at the University of Bolton's campus in UAE.
Students entering the clearing system who cannot get a place at The University of Bolton because courses are full will be offered the opportunity to study at the university's Ras Al Khairmah (RAK) campus, 45 minutes away from Dubai.
The University of Bolton has already pledged its commitment to students by allocating up to up to 50 places to students who have achieved three As at A-level or the equivalent.
Dr George Holmes, Vice Chancellor of the University of Bolton has also assured students with firm or insurance offers that their place will be honoured.
Now the University is pledging to help unsuccessful students to begin a new life as undergraduates in the Middle East.
University of Bolton Pro Vice Chancellor, Professor Rob Campbell said: 'The University will charge students the same tuition fees as its UK-based students and accommodation fees will be the same as they are in Bolton.
'This is the first time we have offered UK students the opportunity to study in RAK for the full three years of a degree course.'
Undergraduate Recruitment Manager, Laura Carruthers added: 'We have given students studying in Bolton an opportunity to study at the RAK Campus for a semester in the past.
"But now the Vice Chancellor has said that UK students who meet the criteria for courses at the University of Bolton will be offered a place at the RAK campus as one of the alternatives to ensure students do get a chance to go to university, given the demand on places this year.
'Students who graduate from the RAK campus will receive a University of Bolton degree.'
The courses are directly equivalent to those provided for students at Bolton and share the same exam boards, quality monitoring processes and external verification.
Students are, however, being urged to check what loans they are entitled to—if any—if they decide to study at the RAK campus.
