Overview

After completing his postgraduate degree (MSc) in 2006, whilst working as a practitioner, Sean moved into higher education teaching. Sean joined the University of Bolton in 2011, having worked in a part-time capacity from 2009. He gained Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist status in 2010, from the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA), and Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy in 2013. Sean is accredited by The British Association of Sport and Exercise Sciences (BASES) as an Accredited Sport and Exercise Scientist, and is recognised by the Science Council as a Chartered Scientist (CSci).

Research Interests

Sean’s current research focus, for PhD, is exploring the role of dynamic stability in the execution of dynamic tasks, and the relationship to common lower limb injury markers. Sean is also interested in the role of biomechanical analysis in providing better strength and conditioning strategies for common lower limb injury re/pre-habilitation. Sean has also worked on large scale research projects for military personnel.

Applied Experience

Sean works as a specialist in applied sports biomechanics in the University of Bolton’s Athlete Development Centre (ADC), supporting several professional football and rugby teams. Sean has led the England Athletics (EA) partnership with the university, supporting endurance coaches and athletes’ scientific support and educational needs, at regional and national levels. Sean has previously worked with athletics at regional and national levels, as well as athletes competing in the Olympics.
