Associate Lecturer in Sport Rehabilitation
John is a University of Bolton graduate, who went on to spend eight successful years working within professional football. He also gained four years’ experience working within non-league football. His roles within football ranged from a Sports Rehabilitator to a Fitness Coach. John held professional positions at Rochdale FC (4 seasons), Barnsley FC (3 Seasons), Bury FC (1 season), and also worked with Northern Ireland's Under-16s. He was a part of two promotion winning successes in 2009/2010 with Rochdale FC and in 2014/2015 with Bury FC. He began his current position at the University of Bolton in June 2015.

John has developed a wide variety of team and individual strategies in athlete preparation, nutrition, rehabilitation and recovery roles. His research interests are based around recovery from both injury and activity. Having spent eight years in elite sport, John is keen on developing the applied skills he has gained into more research based evidence for the field.
John's applied experience has been based around the enhancement of teams and individuals through scientific based fitness work and high quality functional/dynamic rehabilitation programmes, along with individual and team pre-habilitation programmes. Having worked in elite sport, John has gained a vast range of ideas to optimise performance and recovery from injury whilst also implementing strength and conditioning strategies.
