Overview

Michael Butler studied at the University of Manchester.  He completed his B.Sc. (Honours) in Mathematics in 1988 and his M.Sc. in Pure Mathematics in 1989.  His Ph.D. thesis Formal Power Series and Chromatic Polynomials of Graphs investigated the application of algebraic techniques to counting problems and was completed in 1992.  He has worked at the University of Bolton since 1992.  Michael completed his M.A. (with distinction) in Philosophy at the University of Bolton in 2002.  His thesis Deflationism and Semantic Theories of Truth was an investigation into the formal semantics of truth.

Academic Interests

Abstract algebra, particularly group theory, ring theory and Clifford algebras, and its applications.
