Senior Lecturer Community studies
Prior to joining the University I worked in Further Education on various Health and Social Studies courses (including Access, B.Tec and GNVQ). Prior to that I was a nurse/senior sister both in the (North West) community and in various Accident and Emergency Departments in London.
As part of my professional and academic development, I studied part time and gained a M.A.in Social Policy, M Ed in Health and Social Studies, and gained various post Registered qualifications in nursing in addition to my R.G.N. I have also project managed a European funded research project (value £85,000) which looked at the barriers to progression for Modern Apprentices who want to study in Higher Education.
Currently I am a Fellow of the Higher Education Authority and I have gained my Post Graduate Diploma in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and work as a volunteer therapist in the Bolton area. I am also a founder member of Breast Cancer Care’s (London) User Research Partnership. I am currently Personal Tutoring Champion for the Department and have worked with the Academic lead for Student Enhancement and Experience on developing the University Personal Tutoring strategy and policy.
My research interests, both topics and supervision, cover a wide range of community studies and health including health inequalities, social aspects of breast cancer, Social Capital, social theory and gender.
