Overview

I graduated from the University of Leeds with a BTEC Diploma in Dental Technology, with a DDD grade, wining ‘Overall Best Student’ for my year group. Almost immediately I started working for Leeds Dental Institute constructing a wide range of appliances for undergraduate and qualified dentists. Whilst working at Leeds I enrolled on the Level 6 Diploma in Professional Studies - Advanced Removable Prosthetics at Manchester Metropolitan University, gaining a Distinction grade.

During this time I applied for a Senior Technician post at York Hospital and moved over once my course was completed. This was a specialised role in Oncology Prosthetics, which was my main interest after undertaking the Diploma at the MMU. The main duties of this role were to create advanced dentures in a variety of materials for patients experiencing treatment for oral and throat cancer. This was a challenging role due to anatomical defects presented by these kind of patients. I worked extremely closely with Consultants and spent a lot of time in clinic perfecting the range of devices required. This unique role demanded an advanced skill set to compliment the clinical hospital team, and it enabled me to provide mentoring and training to other dental technicians.
