National Student Survey 2009
University-wide Resource Issues
|
The University takes the NSS outcomes seriously and we have tasked the Schools with responding directly to the issues you have raised. However, you raised several issues related to the University as a whole and we have asked colleagues to identify those issues and respond to them now. This list shows the issues raised and how we have responded directly to try to solve them.
YOU SAID 'Resources in some subject areas, such as Law and Environmental Science, are not good enough for our needs.'
WE DID While most students say that there are not enough books in their area, we nevertheless are looking closely with schools at those subject areas with lower scores in order to identify the gaps and either move finance from better performing areas or obtain additional funding from other sources.
YOU SAID 'There are not enough PCs in the library.'
WE DID As space is at a premium in the library, 25 extra laptops for student loan have been purchased for use either in the library or the SLZ. This has increased the number of laptops available for loan to 75.
YOU SAID 'There are issues with the age and reliability of the computers in the library.'
WE DID We did have now replaced all the computers with new models.
YOU SAID 'We leave computers on and waste energy.'
WE DID We have now implemented a power management system that hibernates computers when not in use and expect to reduce the associated carbon footprint by 60%.
YOU SAID 'We want improved career prospects as a result of our course.'
WE DID We are appointing a new Head of Careers & Employability and are looking at how we make our students more employable through our new employability strategy.
