You Said, We Did - Games, Computing and Creative Technologies

Games

YOU SAID: 'Some of the core skills modules seem to be pretty useless, learning about communities of practice, or creating a Wiki page had no beneficial aspects.'

WE DID: We now teach core skills in the context of Games Design in a new module called Games Design 1. We have replaced the Career Development module with an extended Project Skills module.

YOU SAID
: '... Games Portfolio has nothing to do with my portfolio ...'

WE DID: We have reconfigured this module. The staff who are now teaching this module are allowing students to choose their own software for the development part of the module.

Creative Technologies

YOU SAID: 'Not enough feedback from certain lecturers.'

WE DID: We have begun a review of feedback provision across the school to look at good practice and ways of standardising quality and quantity of feedback where appropriate.

YOU SAID: 'We do not use industry standard software. The tutors are not from the industry.'

WE DID: Over the summer of '09 we invested heavily in updating the computer labs (hardware, software and general refurbishment). We have employed a full time SFX lecturer who has considerable industry experience and has brought many industry links with him. We have also employed a number of part time lecturers with experience of the creative industries.

YOU SAID: 'The University has continued to improve in both facilities and general day-to-day running during my time there. If this trend continues to grow it will make Bolton University definitely one of the top in the UK, in my eyes it already is.'

WE DID: We continue to invest in and develop our facilities and to share good practice to continuously improve.

Computing

YOU SAID:  'My studies have enhanced my communication skills and confidence in tacking problems.'

WE DID:  We have further strengthened our focus on transferable skills through implementing project skills teaching.

YOU SAID:  'My timetable changes were not always communicated effectively.'

WE DID: We have put into place a procedure for changes to be communicated to students, via the school administration office.
