Welcome, we're here to help

Student Services is based in the Student Centre, Chancellors Mall. The team of Student Advisors offer information, advice and guidance on a wide range of student support issues. These include Accommodation|, Careers|, Spirituality (Chaplaincy)|,  Counselling|, Disability|Volunteering|, Enrolment and Student Finance|. They can also refer you and make appointments for you to see specialist staff. Private interview room facilities are available on request. An induction loop facility for the deaf and hard of hearing is also available.

We welcome feedback by users about the service we provide. A suggestions/comments box is provided in the Student Centre. All feedback received is considered when reviewing the service provided. Visit our Feedback| pages for more information. We can also provide advice on a range of issues including the Student Complaints Procedure|.

Nurse Advisor Clinic

The Nurse Advisor Clinic is between 10.30am and 12.00pm every Wednesday. The service is provided by Deane Medical Centre and will be based in the Student Centre. No appointment neccessary. 

MMR

The vaccine

The MMR vaccine protects against measles, mumps and rubella (German measles). To ensure you are adequately protected it is important you have two doses of MMR.

How do I know if I am already protected?

Check with your parents, carers or GP to see if you have ever been vaccinated against measles, mumps or rubella.

What should I do now?

If you think you need an MMR jab all you need to do is make an appointment with either your gp surgery, or the walk in centre at Lever Chambers |

Official Letters and Council Tax

 

Official Letters

Should you require an official letter for the purpose of opening a bank account or to confirm you are a student, you should complete the appropriate form which is available from Student Services, Student Centre or as a download on our  A to Z of Downloads| page. Where possible we will do the letter while you wait.  However, this may be extended to 5 working days during peak enrolment times.

If you are an international student making an application to extend your visa, please contact Student Services for more information.

All requests for letters should be sent to Student Services. There may be a charge of £5 for duplicate official letters. Please contact Student Services| for further information or refer to our Student Services Charges |leaflet.

Council Tax

Full-time students who live alone or with other full-time students are exempt from paying council tax. Any such students who are registered/enrolled on a full-time course at the University will be able to obtain council tax exemption. Full-time students with a non-student partner may be eligible for a partial reduction. Contact Student Services|, Student Centre for further information.

Students living in Bolton should complete a Bolton Council Tax Application Form available from Bolton Council, Student Services or as a download |and submit this to Bolton Council.

Students living in Salford should complete a Salford Council Tax Application Form available from Salford Council and submit this to Salford Council directly.

Students living in Manchester please notify Manchester Council Tax Office directly.

Students living outside Bolton will need to complete a Council Tax Certificate Request available from Student Services or as a download| to obtain a certificate and give this to their own Local Council. 

ID cards

An ID card for the duration of your course will be provided at enrolment. A charge of £10 may be made for subsequent replacements. If your card has been stolen and you have a crime number we will produce a replacement free of charge. You should contact Student Services|, Student Centre for further information.
