2011 Funding Information for Full Time PGDE/PDE courses

This information sheet provides details of the financial arrangements for those intending to begin a PGDE or PDE course at the University of Bolton in September 2011. Course Fees (Home/EU Students)

 

PGDE Full Time 1 year £3,000

PDE Full Time  1 year £3,000

 

The course fees apply to all PGDE/PDE courses accredited by the University of Bolton regardless of where the course is being studied.

Financial Assistance

 

Tuition Fee Loan:

 

  • If you wish to defer payment of your tuition fees until after the completion of your course you may take out a tuition fee loan to cover the cost of the course. If you choose this option the tuition fees will be paid directly from the Student Loan Company to the University. You will start to repay this loan after the completion of your course and when you are earning over £15,000.

 

Maintenance Grant:

 

  • A non repayable grant of up to £2,906 will be available to full time PGDE/PDE students, subject to household income.

 

To receive the full £2,906 grant the household income must be below £25,000.

 

To receive a partial grant the household income must be between £25,001 and £50,020.

Student Maintenance Loan:

A student loan up to a maximum of £3,497 will be available to students who are in receipt of the maximum Maintenance Grant and living independently from their parents.

 

Maximum student loan of £4,950 will be available for students not in receipt of the maintenance grant and living independently from their parents.

 

The maximum student loan available if living with parents is £3,838.

 

Further Education Sector

 

Training Bursaries: For students training to teach designated shortage subjects an additional bursary of £5,000 may be available for subjects covered within the following categories:

 

 Mathematics

 Skill for Life-Numeracy and Literacy

 Science

 Engineering and Technology

 Information and Communications Technology

 

Bursaries are generally paid monthly between October and June subject to the University’s receipt of a current CRB disclosure

 

Additional Support

 

The University’s Access to Learning Fund may be available to students in severe financial hardship. It is a means tested fund and administered on a case by case basis. To apply the maximum student funding offered must have been taken out.
