Student Experiences
"I have been studying at Bolton since February 2004 first undertaking an MBA, followed by a PGCE, both on a part-time basis. The reason I chose Bolton in the first place was because I had completed my first degree here, without a disability, and enjoyed the experience immensely. I didn't expect this to change because of having a visual impairment – and it didn't.
Access technology is available to assist with specific requirements of visual impairment, hearing impairment, dyslexia and physical disabilities. But I feel that, much as technology has played a major part in enabling me to study successfully at Bolton, much more important is the people. Whether it be academic, student services, Library or cafeteria staff, I have found staff to be extremely helpful and pleasant at all times, even if it is the one hundredth time I have asked for assistance. Sometimes an answer isn't an easy solution, but again wherever I have asked for help the response has always been positive, with a "let's see how we can solve it" approach. I have also found that fellow students have been sensitive to my requirements without me feeling like an outsider. My positive and thoroughly enjoyable experience at Bolton has given me the confidence to apply to undertake a PhD next semester – so I expect to be studying here for at least the next five years. I wouldn't consider such a significant undertaking if I didn't feel that the University wasn't committed to students with disabilities and could satisfy my specific requirements. I would like to take the opportunity to thank everyone at the University for their help and positive attitude which have been invaluable for my studies – I have completed two post-graduate courses and look forward to the third."

"I am having a great experience studying at the University of Bolton although I have Asperger's Syndrome. It proves to me that whichever disability you have nothing can stop you studying in Higher Education"
