Physical accessibility on campus
General Access
A physical access audit of the University of Bolton estate was undertaken several years ago and a planned programme of improvement is currently ongoing.
A dual carriageway divides the campus. A pedestrian crossing offers a safe passage to cross the road. For users who have a visual impairment please note that this is no bleeper to indicate when it is safe to cross. Instead there is a rotating cone on the underside of the control box. This begins to rotate when the traffic lights are on red indicating it is safe to cross. As the road is a dual carriage way the button must be pressed again once you have crossed to the central refuge.
The entrances to the Chancellors Mall, the Student Centre and the Library at Eagle all have automatic doors. There are lifts to all floors of Eagle Tower (including one that is safe to use in the event of an evacuation). All doors on corridors are push button operated for easier access. Wherever possible wheelchair access to teaching rooms is facilitated. Where difficulties arise alternative arrangements can be made.
Access to the library and computing facilities is good. The Library is on the ground floor and all of the relevant doors are push button operated for easier access.
Accessible toilets are available in all buildings.
Car Parking
There are a limited number of car parking spaces for those students with mobility difficulties. With agreement with a Disability Adviser, those with mobility problems may be able to gain access to University car parks . The car parks have barriers at the entrances. In order to gain access your student ID card will have to be activated. Only students who are Blue Badge holders and have them displayed in their window will be able to park in the allocated disabled bays. Please note that no spaces are reserved.

Accessible accommodation
The University of Bolton has two halls of residence, The Hollins situated on Radcliffe Rd and Orlando Halls of Residence, a short distance from Deane Campus. At both Halls there are adapted rooms with en suite facilities. We can make reasonable adjustments such as flashing lights and vibrating pagers linked to the fire alarm system for students who are D/deaf or hard of hearing. It is important that you arrange to visit halls before applying. The Disability Adviser can help you to do this.
Please see our Accommodation page| for more information.
The campus map| will give you some idea of the proximity of the Halls of Residence to the campus. Neither are more than approximately 10 minutes by car.
