The University's Immigration and Welfare Officers provide specialist support and guidance for the University of Bolton's international students on a wide range of issues from extending your student visa to personal and welfare matters impacting on your studies.
If you need to extend your student visa| |to complete your course of study you will need to request a Conformation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS||) number from the University. We recommend that you start to prepare your application for a visa extension at least two months before your current visa expires. Do not wait until your visa is about to expire before you check what you need to do and which documents you are expected to send with your application. If you are unable to submit your application because you cannot meet the requirements before your current visa expires you should leave the UK, otherwise you will become an overstayer, which is a criminal offence and this may affect any future applications you make.
For personal and welfare issues impacting on your studies, we have an excellent team here able to offer you information, advice and guidance. If for any reason you think you may need to take a break from your studies, it is very important that you discuss your situation with an Immigration and Welfare Officer because there are possible serious implications for you if you stop attending, even temporarily.
Appointments slots are available Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays at 10:00am, 10:30am, 2:00pm, 2:30pm. To book an appointment please contact the Student Advisors on 01204 903733 or email studentadvisors@bolton.ac.uk|

Support to University staff
The Immigration and Welfare Officers are available to support staff members dealing with international students, and may be contacted via email, telephone or in person. They are happy to discuss with staff how best to support students.
Staff in academic departments are asked to refer all international students with immigration queries to the Immigration and Welfare Officer as some academic issues can have serious implications for a student’s ability to stay in the UK.
