World Aids Day

WORLD AIDS DAY - 1 DECEMBER 2011

The University celebrated World AIDS Day on 1 December 2011 with a HIV Awareness Raising event in the Social Learning Zone.

Our guests of honour were the Mayor of Bolton, Councillor Noel Spencer MBE with guest speakers including a HIV Positive Speaker from George House Trust in Manchester, a charity that supports people living with the HIV virus, and Renate Hewart, the Lead Nurse/Service Manager for Sexual Health and Reproductive Health for Bolton, Ashton, Wigan and Leigh.

One of the AIDS Memorial Quilt panels was displayed.  The quilt panels were created in the 1980s in remembrance of those who have died of AIDS (Aquired Immunodeficiency Disease Syndrome).  Photos of the quilt panel can be found on this web page. The event was in collaboration with NHS Bolton, Public Health, George House Trust, Bolton Council, and Bolton Interfaith Council    On the day, the University greeted guests from our partner organisations plus colleagues from Bolton College and University of Bolton students.  A big thank you to all who contributed or participated in this event to make it a success.
