Many students leave their job hunting until after they have graduated, unaware that many of the best graduate training schemes have finished recruiting. Many major recruiters such as the NHS have closing dates in December recruiting for the following September. Make sure you are making applications throughout your final year.

Unite with Business programme - University of Bolton - We can provide you with
paid opportunities to work in a business on a meaningful project relevant to your studies. These short-term opportunities last for 20 days and provide a real insight into the workplace. This programme allows you the opportunity to complete more than one 20 day project for different businesses giving you valuable experience. This programme is open to any graduate located in the North West regardless of university of study, and any final year student studying a higher level qualification (including post graduate).Contact: Dr Phil Lawton

TalentPlus - Manchester Metropolitan University -
Running at least every three weeks in 2010, TalentPlus aims to help graduates get a foot in the door of their chosen career. TalentPlus workshops offer generic training in commercial awareness in the job market plus enhanced careers advice through personal skills highlighting, coaching and employer matching with placements or paid internships. If you've:-
- Graduated from a UK university
- Have a National Insurance number or a UK/EU passport,
- Live in the North West of England
TalentPlus can help you in your search for that great job. You just need to attend an Information Day session before you can register.

Graduate Gateway - - University of Salford -
Graduate Gateway includes two elements: five days of high-quality intensive training focused on developing your employability and encouraging you to reflect on your personal and professional strengths, and a 13-week work placement which is paid at minimum wage or above. You can apply directly for work experience placements or complete the training and then apply for a placement. This is a free programme for unemployed / under-employed graduates. There are no charges made to graduates. The criteria used for selection will be:
- Recentness of graduation:
graduate gateway is primarily aimed at those who graduated in 2009 and 2010.
- Location: priority will be given to graduates who live in the Greater Manchester and North West region
- Career interests: we cannot guarantee any participant a placement; however, in the event of a large amount of applications being made, priority will be given to applicants whose interests match potential employer placements. Contact -

Graduate work experience with Step Enterprise -
The Step project which finds work experience placements for undergraduates has now been extended to offer short term work experience projects to recent graduates. If your CV is lacking relevant work experience then call into the Careers library and find out how to apply or visit. www.step.org.uk |The programme for graduate candidates will be the same as for undergraduates, namely a constructive project based placement in an SME for 8-12 weeks. They will benefit from the same induction, review and mentoring process and be given the same support material. They will attend a local awards day, write a project report and make a presentation just like the undergraduate candidates. And they will receive a Step programme certificate at the end of their placement, recognising their participation and achievements.
Graduate Talent Pool is a new service that matches graduates with internship opportunities. On this site you can search and apply for internship vacancies posted by employers.Getting an internship through Graduate Talent Pool is one way of building on the skills you gained at university. It can also give you real life work experience, let you try your hand at a possible career, and prove yourself to a potential employer.
