Aimhigher Associates SchemeOLD

What is the Aimhigher Associates Scheme?

The Aimhigher Associates Scheme has been developed to promote progression of learners from state schools to the full range of HE provision on offer.

Who can be an Aimhigher Associate?

Aimhigher Associates should, ideally come from a state school background. If you would like to be;
 a role model for young people,
 help them with the UCAS application system,
 provide them with information and support around the transition from school or college to a HE environment,
 provide information, advice and guidance to young people
 sample a range of Aimhigher and other widening participation activities and experiences.
Then the Aimhigher Associates programme could be for you.

What do Aimhigher Associates do?

As an Aimhigher Associate you will work largely with small groups (5 or 6 learners) in a designated school or college.  You will work with the learners to deliver practical activities and if there are other Aimhigher Associates working in the same school, you can work together in larger groups as appropriate.

In addition to group sessions in school, Aimhigher Associates will also provide one-to-one email support using a web based mentoring system, which is monitored by the school and Aimhigher.

How much time do Aimhigher Associates have to commit to?

Aimhigher Associates will be expected to deliver a minimum of 10 group sessions with the expectation that 5 email sessions will also be delivered.  Therefore, must be able to commit a reasonable amount of time to the role of Aimhigher Associate because you are building a bond of trust between yourself, your group of learners and the school you will work in and you do not want to jeopardize this trust.  Please consider these issues when applying as it may have important implications on your studies, the reputation of the University of Bolton and the Aimhigher Associates Scheme.

Do Aimhigher Associates get paid?

Aimhigher Associates will be paid a set rate for the activities they deliver.  This payment includes preparation and travel time and expenses, plus the time you spend with the learners.  There will be a bonus payment at the end of the year if all the 10 group sessions and 5 email sessions have been completed.
