If you are studying at the University of Bolton with a Tier 4 visa you will need to be aware that certain changes to your studies may impact on your visa. Below is a summary of these changes and how they will impact your immigration status in the UK. You must seek advise from the Immigration and Welfare Officer before your request any change to your student record.

Mode of study

Students with a Tier 4 visa must be studying a full-time course. Requests to study part time cannot be approved for Tier 4 students.

Suspending Studies

If you wish to suspend your studies for either personal or academic reasons you must have the authorisation of your Academic Group Leader. If you are an international student with a Tier 4 visa you should also seek advice from the Immigration and Welfare Officer before suspending your studies.

The University will be required to report a suspension in studies to UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI). Your visa will then be curtailed and you will be advised of this in writing by UKVI. The letter will confirm the date that you must make arrangements to leave the UK or make a further application for leave. This will usually be 60 days from the date of the letter.

Once you are in a position to resume your studies you will need to request a new CAS from the University and make a fresh Entry Clearance application from your country of residence for new Tier 4 leave.

Withdrawing from your course

If you withdraw from your course of study the University will be required to report this to UKVI. Your visa will then be curtailed and you will be advised of this in writing by the UKVI. The letter will confirm the date that you must make arrangements to leave the UK. This will usually be 60 days from the date of the letter.

Course completion early than expected.

If you complete your course earlier than expected the University will be required to report this to UKVI. Your visa will then be curtailed and you will be advised of this in writing by UKVI . The letter will confirm the date that you must make arrangements to leave the UK or make a further application for leave.

Change of course

If you wish to change your course of study you will need to seek advice from the Immigration and Welfare Officer. The Immigration and Welfare Officer will check whether the requested change is possible and the implications of this change on your current Tier 4 permission.

If there are any problems with your Tier 4 visa or it is being curtailed UKVI will write to inform you. Therefore it is important that you keep UKVI informed of your UK Contact address. You can inform UKVI of your contact details using their online form.
