Facilities at Deane Campus
The Sports Centre is located on the Deane Campus adjacent to the main staff car park, and is nestled between College Way and Derby Street. The Sports Centre is the hub for the majority of the sport and physical activities that take place in the University.
Sports Hall
The Sports Hall houses 4 badminton courts and lends itself to a wide range of activities including 5-a-side football, badminton, table tennis, trampolining, netball, circuits, yoga and pilates, plus a whole host of other fitness-related classes and sports-based activities. The Sports Hall is very busy as it accommodates academic sports-oriented practicals, fitness classes, club activities, competitions and events and is hired out for recreational activities by students, staff and the general public.
Climbing Wall
The climbing wall is a lead wall 60ft x 30ft with a wide range of routes ideal for both beginners and experienced climbers. THe SU Climbing Club operate a weekly taught session where you can learn how to climb under the guidance and supervision of an SPLA qualified instructor. You will need to join the Climbing Club at the Students' Union.
The climbing wall can be hired for group sessions. This must be pre booked with the manager as there are conditions attached to the hire. Please contact the Sports Centre Manager on 01204 903639 or email p.lonsdale@bolton.ac.uk||
We no longer have casual use of the climbing wall. All users must book in advance.
Fitness Suite (Gym)
The Fitness Suite houses a range of cardio-vascular and resistance equipment. Essentially this includes treadmills, rowing machines, static bikes and cross trainer machines. The resistance equipment includes a multigym plus 10 other resistance station and some light free dumbbell weights. In the Gym you can get a whole body workout whenever you can fit it around your studies. Gym Inductions are offered for those who are new to the gym.
Cycle Cabinets
Staff and students who require a cycle cabinet for this coming year please complete an application form and return to the estates department.
Off-Site Venues and Facilities
Please Note the off-site venues and facilities used change from year to year depending on availability, activity demand etc. Below is just an example of facilities which have previously been used.
Many activities that take place as part of University life take place at other venues. These are just a few of the venues and activities that take place during the year:
Hockey Club
The Hockey Club trains at Sharples Lesiure Centre| |and other local facilities.
Rugby Club
The Rugby Club trains at Bolton Rugby Union Football Club| |(BRUFC), Avenue Street, Bolton.
Football Club
Training takes place at The Bolton Arena||. Home matches take place at Queens Park, Leverhulme Park and other local pitches. For further information on local pitches please contact the Leisure and Culture department of the local authority.||
Climbing Club
Training takes place on the Universitys indoor wall and at surrounding crags such as Brownstones, Anglezarke, Wilton and other local climbing venues.
Watersports
These are typically summer-based activities that take place at the Anderton Centre|| local outdoor activity centres including on Lower Rivington Water and the Burrs Activity Centre| |at Woodhill in Bury. The watersports typically involve open canoes, kayaking, sailing and windsurfing.
Mountain Biking (MTB)
Mountain Biking takes place at Rivington, Moses Gate Country Park| |and other trails. MTB can be a couple of hours, whole days or weekends.
Ski Rossendale and The Chill Factore
The Ski and Snowboarding Club organises regular trips to Ski Rossendale for beginners through to advanced and a annual holiday to the Alps!
