Disability Service

The Disability Service| offers advice and guidance to students throughout their learning experience, from application stage to graduation. Prospective students can also find out more about the Disability Service at Open Day| events. The University of Bolton has a strong reputation for providing a supportive learning environment for all students.

There are two full-time disability advisers and a part-time clerical assistant. They are there to help offering one-to-one appointments and drop-in sessions to students across campus, as well as carrying out diagnostic screenings for Dyslexia.

Within the university the disability advisers liaise with schools and academic tutors to provide a comprehensive support package for students. This service is confidential and therefore communication is only carried out with the students’ written consent. The team also works very closely with the Learning Support and Development| centre based in the library.

All UK students with a disability are eligible to apply for a Disabled Students’ Allowance. This is an independent allowance i.e. it is not means tested. Further information can be obtained from your Local Education Authority (LEA) or the Department for Education and Skills (DfES)| booklet entitled ‘Bridging the Gap’.
