Combined Honours Programmes

Introduction

Some of the subjects we offer at honours degree level [BA/BSc (Hons)] can be combined. While a single honours course allows you to specialise in one area, our combined honours options provide a way of studying two individual subjects to create the ideal degree for you. Unfortunately it is not possible to combine subjects that are available only as foundation degrees or HND/Cs.

There are two types of combined honours degree: major/minor honours (where approximately two thirds of your studies will be in the major subject and one third in the minor subject) and joint honours (where you study both subjects equally). Please see below for UCAS codes linked to full-time combined honours courses. If you are interested in studying a major/minor honours combination, please apply to the joint honours combination in the first instance. Please check the course finder| entries for both your subjects to check they are available in the modes you wish to study - not all subjects are available as major/minor programmes.

Applicants for combined honours degrees need to achieve the higher of the UCAS point scores published for the two subjects they wish to combine. Please see individual course entries for details.

List of academic schools and centres

The following schools and centres offer undergraduate courses at the University of Bolton.

I'm interested in studying a combined honours degree. How do I find out which school will look after me?

Some students will choose two subjects that are taught by the same school. Obviously it's easy to work out which school will look after you in these cases. For instance, if you want to combine Animation & Illustration and Fine Arts then you would be a student in the School of Arts, Media and Education. Equally, if you wished to combine Business Management and Law then you would be looked after by the School of Business and Creative Technologies.

Alternatively you might want to combine two quite different subjects, or related subjects that are taught by different schools. In this case, you would be considered a student of the school that offers the subject with the name that comes first in the alphabet. For instance, if you wished to combine Psychology and Law then you would be looked after by the school that offers the Law degree - the School of Business and Creative Technologies.

Therefore, if you choose to combine two subjects, you will belong to the school which is responsible for the subject that comes first in the alphabet from the two subjects you've chosen.

Where will I go to get my timetable and choose my modules when I arrive?

Once you enrol with the University then you will be expected to attend an induction programme for your course. Details of this induction will be sent to you shortly before you enrol.

If you have to attend two inductions, because you have chosen two quite different subjects, it is unlikely that they will be at the same time. However, if this were to happen it would be best to go the the induction for the subject which is first alphabetically (because you'll be considered a student within that school). Afterwards, you should visit the School Office for your other subject for advice (see below).

After you have enrolled you will be able to find out who your tutor is and where to get your timetable from the School Offices responsible for your subjects. Please see the pages for the schools responsible for the two subjects you have chosen for details of which School Offices you should visit.

For answers to more general questions about studying at the University, additional learning support, accommodation, child care, fees, funding and finances you should visit the Student Advisers|.
