Entry requirements
Access and foundation courses
The access provision is aimed particularly at students who do not have the necessary formal qualifications to gain direct entry onto programmes leading to HND or degree awards. Individual cases will be treated on their merits.

For Access to HE Diploma courses applicants are expected to have spent at least a year away from formal studying, or have significant life/work experience. Overseas candidates must have completed high school or equivalent and have English language proficiency of at least IELTS 5.5 (or equivalent).

For the Foundation Diploma (Art & Design) applicants are normally expected to have successfully completed Level 2 qualifications (i.e. GCSEs or equivalent) and have a portfolio of related work. Overseas candidates must have completed high school or equivalent and have English language proficiency of at least IELTS 6.0 (or equivalent).

For the International Foundation Year in Business and Management applicants must have a minimum of 12 years' schooling, have completed a high school leaving certificate (or equivalent), and have an English language proficiency of at least IELTS 5.0 (with no band less than 4.5) or a recognised equivalent.

For the International Foundation Semester in Business and Management applicants must have a minimum of 12 years' schooling, have completed a high school leaving certificate (or equivalent), and have an English language proficiency of at least IELTS 5.5 (with no band less than 5.0) or a recognised equivalent.

The University of Bolton reserves the right to call any applicant for interview, request a portfolio of appropriate work or administer any other test to determine a candidate's suitability for study prior to their enrolment with the University.
