Cyberpsychology conference launches
Tuesday 06 July 2010
Academics arrive in Bolton tomorrow (7 July 2010) to take part in a new international conference exploring the psychology of computers.
How using computers affects our thinking, emotions and behaviour will all be explored in Cyberpsychology & Computer Psychology 2010.
This one-day international conference is organised by the University's Computer and Cyberpsychology Research Unit (UBCCRU). It will cover a range of current themes in cyberpsychology, individual differences in computer-related behaviour and the psychology of technology-enriched learning. Fifty delegates from as far away as Japan are expected to attend.
The conference will include symposia, poster sessions and talks by keynote speakers - Dr Mark Brosnan, University of Bath and Dr Monica Whitty, Nottingham Trent University. There will also be a special Question and Answer session, featuring Dr Aleks Krotosky, presenter of the BBC 2 series The Virtual Revolution.
Online games addiction and its impact on work, home and social lives; the psychology of multimedia learning; possible links between personality and gaming addiction and the impact of computers as a stress factor have all been explored in University research projects over the past five years.
Said Dr John Charlton, part of the organising team from UBCCRU: 'We are delighted with the interest this conference has excited in our field. We expect to learn much from each other's research.'
