A-grade commitment pledge
Monday 16 August 2010
The University of Bolton is making a positive commitment to students at a time of uncertainty and concern for many.
The University has responded to the concerns expressed to, and by, the Rt Hon David Willetts, Minister of State for Universities and Science, that some young people who achieve exceptional A-levels may find it difficult to gain a place to study this year.
The University of Bolton has in its planning for the new academic year, made provision for exactly this type of student.
Up to 50 students who have not previously applied to the University of Bolton and who hold grades AAA at A level or equivalent (and who are eligible to apply through clearing) and apply before the close of play on Saturday 21 August will be guaranteed a place on an appropriate course.
Dr George Holmes, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Bolton said: 'Students achieving three 'A' grade A-levels or equivalent, should have the opportunity to pursue a university career. It is in all our interests that such academic potential should be nurtured through Higher Education. At Bolton we demonstrate this by awarding excellence scholarships to this type of student.'
The demand for places at the University of Bolton from UK and EU domiciled students has increased this year by over 20 per cent, far more than the national average (11 per cent, UCAS data). For overseas students choosing to study at Bolton, the increase in applications is over 100 per cent this year.
In responding to increased demand for places from students, the University of Bolton is promising that those students holding a firm offer or insurance offer from the University, and who meet their offer grades, will get their place.
Dr Holmes added: 'We are committed to supporting all our students, full and part time, to do great things as they develop their academic and professional futures; and we look forward to welcoming new students in September.'
Opportunities also exist for UK students to study full-time at the University of Bolton's campus in UAE.
