Professor Peter Myler
Professor of Engineering Analysis and Design
Peter holds a PhD in Composite Materials and a Master’s degree in Applied Mechanics. During his 30 years in higher education, he has worked at five different higher education institutions across the UK.
He is a Fellow of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers and a Chartered Engineer. He is also currently the education officer for the region. For the last 15 years, he has been an external examiner for four other UK universities in the area of motorsport engineering.
He has conducted research and consultancy in composite materials, finite element analysis and crashworthiness, publishing over 100 papers in these areas. Working with automotive and motorsports companies during his time in higher education, he has helped to develop stronger, lighter and safer components for applications in the transport industries.
Peter delivers lectures to students in the areas of applied mechanics, strength of materials and finite element analysis, allowing students at all levels of our motorsport engineering degrees to benefit from his experience. He has also published book chapters on course material in the above areas and papers related to learning methods particularly associated with engineering students.
