Mentoring can provide many benefits, but in the main mentors can expect to gain:

What skills are needed to be a mentor?
In order to be a good mentor the following skills are needed:

Good communication skills and the ability to develop a supportive relationship

Ability to provide feedback in a constructive manner

Ability to commit time and effort to the mentoring relationship

Willingness to be open and share experiences and advice
Mentor Requirements
In order to become a mentor on the career mentoring scheme you need to be:

A member of the Bolton Alumni community
-
Have at least two years professional experience

You must be able to provide us with a reference
-
You must be able to attend an informal chat arranged at a suitable time and location
-
You must attend our mandatory training for mentors
-
You must commit to take part in a review of the scheme
Mentor Responsibilities
As a mentor you will be expected to assist and guide students in order to help them in their career planning process, and help them to explore their career ideas further. We ask that you agree a plan of action at the beginning of the relationship, in order to monitor progress and record any issues that may arise. You will need to agree a contact schedule with your mentee and provide regular updates to the Alumni Development Manager.
