The University of Bolton celebrate Buzzcocks with Design Manchester

The University of Bolton celebrates one of its finest pieces of musical history as it hosts an exhibition for the prestigious Design Manchester festival throughout ten days in October.
The international exhibition ‘Time’s Up’ focuses on Bolton-formed, influential punk band Buzzcocks, and is displayed in the university Atrium. The display marks the very spot where the band performed their first ever gig 41 years ago on 1 April 1976, in what was then the Bolton Institute of Technology.
Professor Paul Hollins, of the School of Arts commented: “The University of Bolton School of Arts is delighted to host the ‘Times Up’ exhibition. The exhibition, which was first shown at the French Paper Gallery in Paris earlier this year documents the formative years of Buzzcocks, from their first gig at the university through to the seminal release of the first do it yourself "spiral scratch" EP.
“With both founder members of the band, Howard Devoto and Pete Shelley awarded honorary doctorates from the university as well as being alumni, the institution’s association with the band continues to this day.”
The preview of the exhibition will be held on 16 October at 18:00, when Professor Paul Hollins and Malcolm Garrett, long-time designer for the band, open the exhibition.
