Welcome to Sound Engineering

This course involves a partnership between the University of Bolton and SSR whose Manchester Studios are well equipped with analogue and state-of-the-art digital systems, software and IT facilities. The course is delivered fully at SSR in Manchester, but some travel between Bolton and Manchester will be necessary to make use of facilities at both sites.

The course includes the fundamentals of sound systems, sound engineering, sound for TV and film, special effects, computer games audio design, electronic music, the scientific principles of sound, studio techniques, live sound and PA systems, sound synthesis, mastering and post production. A work placement period in the second year provides a useful link into the industry.

Having been a commercial recording studio and training school for 30 years, SSR has a large list of music industry contacts around the North West.

Work Placements
