The International Society at the University of Bolton is the most popular society on campus with almost 200 members. It aims to bring Bolton's international students and interested UK students together in a social and recreational environment. It's open to everyone at the university, including staff and people in the wider community who are associated to the university in one way or another. It's a great way of making new friends and seeing more of the North of England and the rest of the UK.
The society is run by a committee mainly consisting of students but assisted by two or three members of staff. It maintains good links with local rotary clubs, community organisations and businesses. On a regular basis, it organises trips to places of cultural interest around the UK and to entertainment and social events. Recent visits include trips to the Lake District and Blackpool (England) as well as Edinburgh (Scotland), Llandudno (Wales) and many other UK cities.
The society is funded through receiving grants and donations, charging membership fees and levying such other charges as are appropriate.
Once a year the society arranges an international evening where students are encouraged to bring along examples of their own cultures and food stuffs so that fellow students and other guests attending the event can enjoy the experience of something different.
