Barclays Bank PLC

 

Option 1-Premium International Student and Family Account

 

The Student and Family Account is an exclusive financial arrangement for international Students. It is available to international Students intending to pursue higher or further education in the UK and can be set up as a joint account in your name and that of your Parent or Benefactor or, alternatively, an account in your name only. You must also open and maintain a Barclays Wealth savings account with a minimum deposit of £5,000.

Option 2-International Student Account           

The International Student Account is a bank account which allows you to carry out your day-to-day banking with ease. It offers a range of products and services to allow you to settle your university and living expenses effortlessly during your studies. This may only be opened in your name, and a minimum balance of £2,000 in your Barclays Wealth current account should be maintained, otherwise a £5 monthly fee will apply.

We have provided a list of banks in Bolton where you might be able to open an account. Each bank has its own criteria that must be met before the account will be opened.

All banks will need to see your passport and most will want to see proof of your term time address. This means that they may wish to see other documents such as: Utility bills in your name (gas, electric), tenancy agreement or other documents that they ask for.

The bank will also want to see a letter from the University to prove that you are a current student with us, you can request this letter from Student Services. Please make an appointment with the bank of your choice before requesting this letter and allow 3-5 working days for us to produce the letter.

**Please be aware that we will only issue one bank letter per student so it is important that you are 100% happy with the bank of your choice before requesting the letter, if however the bank reject your application you can return the original letter and a new one will be issued**

Halifax PLC|

  • Require a letter addressed to the student stating the course details, students need to present the letter and their passport at the bank.
  • Halifax Easycash Account is the only account available

Lloyds PLC|

  • The bank will need to see your passport, visa and a letter of introduction from the University of Bolton.
  • Your course must be a minimum of 6 months long
  • Accounts are subject to status

Santander

  • The bank require a letter from the University  
  • You can apply directly in a Nationwide branch

Natwest|

  • The bank will require a letter from the University
  • You will need a copy of your passport
  • You will need to take your student ID card
  • If you are staying in private accommodation the bank will need to see a utility bill (this should not be the first bill or a reminder) *Mobile phone bills will not be accepted* The name on the bill must match your passport
  • Advantage Blue International account is available

 

Royal Bank of Scotland|

  • The bank will need to see your passport or driving licence
  • If you are staying in private accommodation the bank will need to see a utility or council tax bill in your own name
  • You will only be seen by appointment - visit the branch to make an appointment

HSBC|

  • Go into the bank with a letter of introduction which states UK and Overseas addresses, course details
  • The bank will need to see proof of identification such as your passport

Co-Op Bank|

  • The bank will need to see your passport
  • The course you are studying must be more than 1 year long
  • You must be living in Halls of Residence
  • If you do not have the right ID a basic account will be offered
