Professional biography:

After 17 years of service at the South India Textile Research Association (SITRA), India, Rajendran (Raj) moved to the University of Bolton, UK in 1998. Since then he has been actively involved in Healthcare & Medical Textiles research, teaching and consultancy assignments at the Centre for Materials Research and Innovation. He has been active in R&D for 26 years and successfully completed a number of research projects in the past funded by companies and government funding agencies. He is currently leading a major research programme in Wound Management funded by Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC). Raj has so far authored 99 research papers that include ten books, three patents and one Indian Standard. His book entitled 'Developments in Medical Textiles, published by the Textile Institute, Manchester received greater attention among readers. More recently he co-edited a book entitled 'Medical Textiles and Biomaterials for Healthcare' published by Woodhead Publishing Ltd, Cambridge. A book entitled 'Advanced Textiles for Woundcare', edited by him would be published by Woodhead Publishing Ltd, Cambridge in the middle 2008.

Raj is a Fellow of the Textile Institute, Manchester, Fellow of the Indian Chemical Society and the recipient of a prestigious Research Fellowship award from United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO).
