Dr. Amal Afifi

Professional biography:

I graduated in 1992 from the mechanical engineering department at Helwan university in Egypt. In 1992 I have been appointed as a teaching fellow at the Mechanical Design Department in the same university. I completed my master degree by research in 1999 in the same department and it was about the effect of environmental conditions on the properties of polymeric materials. I obtained my PhD degree from Lancaster University in 2007 in the field of composite structures, the subject of the thesis was about practical improvement of the buckling behaviour of GRP columns using high stiffness material. I joined CMRI in April 2007 as a postdoctoral research fellow and I am a member of the medical textiles group in CMRI. 

Current research interests:

  • Development of 3D spacer fabrics for the treatment of venous leg ulcers
  • FE modelling using ANSYS
  • Composite structures design and analysis
