Youth and Community Work

Welcome to the Youth and Community Work sector in the School of Health and Social Sciences at the University of Bolton.

Introduction

Youth and community workers today are at the forefront of responding to the specific problems experienced by young people and their communities and also to media and public perceptions of them.

As a result of developments in social policy during the past few years, there is a greater demand for highly skilled and appropriately trained practitioners in this field.

You may already be working in the area and looking to extend your skills, or you may have some relevant professional experience such as voluntary work in a youth and community setting.

Whichever describes you, our professional development and honours degree courses in youth and community work offer you an opportunity to develop your personal and professional skills and enhance your career in this challenging yet rewarding profession. Successful completion of the Professional Development in Youth and Community Work (Level HE4) course will entitle you to progress onto the BA (Hons) Youth & Community Work course.

The emphasis throughout is on applied, practical learning. Work placements are a key component of your studies and complement class-based learning, enabling you to build your knowledge and understanding of both the principles and practice of youth and community work.

The School of Health and Social Sciences has well established relationships with many voluntary and statutory agencies within the Bolton area and the wider North West region. Teaching staff have extensive professional experience in the field of youth and community work and will give you excellent support throughout your studies.
