Sport and Leisure
Welcome to the Sport and Leisure sector in the School of Health and Social Sciences at the University of Bolton.
Introduction
The sport and leisure industries represent one of the largest employment sectors in the country. We have a wide range of courses which reflect the breadth of these sectors both in terms of their subject content and in their development of students' employability.
Our undergraduate courses fall into two broad categories: science-based courses that are concerned with areas such as performance, rehabilitation, biomechanics and nutrition, and social science-based courses that are concerned with participation, management, government policy and community sport development. All can be studied on a full-time or part-time basis and single modules may be taken for personal interest or career development.
We also offer postgraduate programmes which provide vital career development opportunities for graduates currently working in the sector.
We have excellent relationships with several organisations in Bolton and the region and through these we are able to offer professional work experience placements to all undergraduate students.
We also work closely with a number of organisations by providing consultancy and research services. Many of our staff are actively involved in research and this helps ensure that teaching is informed by current subject knowledge and practice. All these activities help students to acquire knowledge, skills and experiences that are highly valued by employers.
