Early Years Childhood Studies
Welcome to the Early Years Childhood Studies sector in the School of Health and Social Sciences at the University of Bolton.
Introduction
Our 'early years' courses are designed for those working with the 0-6 years in a variety of settings, including nurseries, children's centres, schools and the wider areas of early years provision.
The last few years have seen unprecedented developments in the early years sector. Legislation and national initiatives have established clear targets for early years settings with the vision of creating a world-class workforce.
The growth in the private and voluntary sector, children's centres and wrap-around care have created a demand for qualified early years practitioners in new and challenging roles. Traditional professional boundaries are being challenged with the move towards multi-agency working.
It is against this background that our courses have been developed, with contributions from employers to ensure they are current and develop the skills and knowledge that are needed for the new early years professional. Our foundation degree in Early Years Childhood Studies is sector endorsed by SureStart so has to demonstrate a commitment to continuous involvement with employers. Strong links have been established with the local authority to ensure our courses fit within the framework of children's services.
Our courses are delivered flexibly on a part-time basis, giving you the opportunity to combine professional and personal commitments. You will gain confidence as you progress through the work-based route.
