Bolton is well known for its excellent reputation for student support and guidance, not only in the Community Studies subject area but across the University. As a new student you will be assigned a personal tutor who will be there to advise you on any academic or personal matters throughout your course. In the first year you will take the module 'Reflecting on Self and Learning to Learn', which covers all basic skills needed for study at degree level (literacy, essay writing etc.)

The university also has in-house counselling staff and disability officers. Disability officers are responsible for any issues to do with physical or other (e.g. dyslexia) disabilities. We endeavour to ensure that students with disabilities receive full support at Bolton.

Level One StudentsOutside the department the students' union, student centre, careers service, library and accommodation services all provide important additional services for students. On campus there are also sports facilities, refectories, a bar and learning zone.

"The community studies degree course has been a real eye opener for me. I now know that I can successfully study almost any subject that I choose with confidence. If someone had said twenty years ago to me (the welder / steel erector) that I would one day have a degree, I would have laughed at them, but here I am now going on to do a Masters !"

"The subjects that I have been taught were in-depth and very challenging, but at the same time leaving me hungry for more, this can only be down to the professionalism and experience of the course tutors of whom it has been a real pleasure and an honour in knowing."

"I think one of the most important aspects of the course, is how it teaches you to be analytical and critical. I cannot stress enough the importance of this new found skill and I feel it will serve me well throughout my life. I will recommend this degree course to anyone and everyone."

"I have gained a lot more confidence in myself, and have come a long way throughout my time at university. I've found employment within the organisation where I did my graduate placement – which I'm really excited about."

"My time at university has changed my life for the better. I now feel I can take on any challenge and succeed."
