What our students say ...
You probably want to hear about us from the people who actually study our courses and use our facilities. After all studying at university is a big committment; you want to make sure you make the right choice. Here are some comments from our past and current students:
Stephen Cartwright
BSc (Hons) Environmental Studies (2009)
"I have greatly enjoyed the practical areas of my course. It has been wonderful to link the theory from the lectures with real-world environments."
Joanna Levison
BSc (Hons) Biology and Psychology (2009)
"I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at Bolton University and have gained more transferable skills than I thought possible. I had a successful career before coming to university but wanted a career change into teaching. I chose a joint degree in biology and psychology, with the biology course providing me with the required national curriculum subject.
Over the years I have learnt more than just the knowledge required for teaching. The University has provided me with countless opportunities to develop my communication, team work and presentation skills as well as the opportunity to gain relevant work experience. The biology lecturers are all helpful, approachable and the small class sizes create an environment conducive to learning. The course is challenging and often very demanding on time, especially if like me you're a mature student and have work commitments but the rewards are plentiful!"
Lauren Ford
BSc (Hons) Human Sciences (2009)
"I studied psychology and PE at A-level and found the science side of PE fascinating. Human sciences seemed the ideal way to combine all my interests. I really enjoyed the diversity of life module and am really looking forward to studying mental illnesses next year. At the beginning of each week you study the theory and later in the week test it out in the related practical session - it's really good because you see the theory in action!"
Angela Turner
BSc (Hons) Environmental Studies (2009)
"I've always been incredibly interested in wildlife and the natural environment so environmental studies was the obvious degree choice. As a disabled student the extra support offered by Bolton surpasses that offered by the other unis I considered. It makes studying manageable and fun. I've known so many people who studied here and they've all recommended it. They were so right - I'm loving it!"
Ryan Nixon
BSc (Hons) Biology (Molecular Sciences) (2009)
"What I love about biology is all the career options you can choose from. It opens so many doors, and because the course at Bolton covers all aspects of living organisms you get a really diverse experience of the life sciences. I'm really enjoying it so far and I'm particularly looking forward to studying molecular biology."
Chuka Obichukwu
BSc (Hons) Biology (2008)
My sister studied at Bolton and recommended the University to me. She was completely right - I'm loving every minute!
Valerie Egbetamah
BSc (Hons) Biology (2008)
"Ever since my childhood I've always loved experimenting or anything laboratory-based. Biology seemed the perfect choice for me, and because of the experience I've gained in my degree I'm now also working part-time in an NHS microbiology lab."
Joanne Grime
BSc (Hons) Biology (2006)
