Facilities, Resources and Student Support
We have a wide range of excellent resources available to back up the teaching provision. These include specialist laboratories and equipment and teaching and data analysis laboratories. There is also a Science Resource Centre which provides facilities additional to the well stocked library.
Bolton is well-known for its excellent reputation for student support and guidance, not only in the biology and environmental studies subject area but across the University. As a new student you will be assigned a personal tutor who will be there to advise you on any academic or personal matters throughout your course. In the first year you will take a Personal Development module which covers all basic skills needed for study at degree level (numeracy, computer literacy, essay writing, etc). You will also be able to talk to the school's student liaison officer| should you experience any problems.
The department also has in-house counselling staff and a disability officer. The disability officer is responsible for any issues to do with physical or other (e.g. dyslexia) disabilities. We endeavour to ensure that students with disabilities| receive full support at Bolton.
Outside the department the students' union|, student services|, careers service, counselling service|, library| and accommodation service| all provide additional important resources for students. On campus there are also sports facilities|, several refectories and a bar.
