Student volunteering
Volunteering will increase your skills and provide experience much sought after by employers. It can increase your confidence, challenge your perspectives and in many cases, alter aspirations. Volunteering whilst an undergraduate will almost certainly allow you to access the voluntary and community sectors and try out various employer/career opportunities. You may even be able to gain academic credit for your volunteering as it is available as a 20 credit, level 2 module.
Students from the life sciences subject area have been very active volunteers in recent years. They regularly take part in the annual MADD (make a difference day) and have had fun working with students from other universities on the North West Universities annual beach clean. A few have achieved wide recognition of their voluntary activity by gaining awards.

This scheme places students in primary and secondary schools for fifteen days to observe and work alongside experienced teachers. In return you receive a tax free payment of £600.00 and it also counts towards a 20 credit module so you gain academic credit too.
