What qualifications do I need to join the BSc course?
The rules are as follows:

You must have a GCSE grade C in Mathematics or Physics.

If you are studying A levels, you need 160 points, ie two Cs. One of these must be in a scientific subject or Computing.

If you are studying for a National Diploma, you need at least 3 merits at level N3. Your ND must be in the general area of computing or science.

If you are studying for the Vocational Certificate of Education, you must achieve at least a 12-unit award with 160 points

What sort of course is this?
The Computer Games Software Development degree is designed to produce games programmers who will be productive in the games industry. Our course includes elements of games design and games art, but we focus heavily on programming.

What sorts of technology can I expect to use?
We have two state-of-the-art labs available for the exclusive use of our games students. Each lab has twenty five PCs with high-specification graphics cards. One lab has a dozen Sony PlayStation development kits. The other has twenty five PS2 development kits. One second year module involves programming mobile phones.

Will I need to know how to write programs before I join the course?
No. We start you off as if you don't know any programming at all. You will quickly become confident in programming Java. Later you will learn C and C++

What software will I learn?
The main software development environment we use is Microsoft's Visual Studio. However, we use a very wide range of different packages, including the level and editors in games.

Ive heard that there is Maths and Physics on the course. Why?
Modern games require mathematical and physical models to achieve the desired level of realism. Our take on these two subjects is entirely practical.
