Why does the Special Effects Industry need SFX graduates?
The Special Effects Industry contributed nearly £1.4 billion in 2003 to the UK economy, according to the UK Film Council, and is estimated will be generate revenues of $70 billion globally in 2005.
With the increasing growth of video post production houses, computer generated effects and effects model making in a wide range of media there is a skills gap in the UK jobs market that requires the provision of courses that provide students with the ability to focus on certain areas of expertise. In addition, to prepare students for later progression in their careers, they should have an overall view of the different types of Audio Visual production and how different special effects can be applied within them. Present courses do not seem to fill this gap. We believe Bolton's does.
