Welcome to Games Computing and Creative Technologies
The world of digital technology is here and it is evolving and expanding at an incredible rate. Of course, your ambition is to be part of it.
At the University of Bolton, our Games Computing and Creative Technologies programmes will give you the opportunity to develop the practical and creative skills you need to pursue that ambition.
Have you thought about your specialist area yet? Perhaps you like to work with the technical intricacies of computer networks and systems, or you feel more at home controlling the mixing desk in a recording studio. Maybe you want to create incredible new worlds using visual effects for film and TV. Or possibly your ambition is to challenge people's skills and reactions by designing the latest computer game.
Whichever is your intended specialism, chances are we have the course to help you develop and refine your talents.
And to help you with that process we have, as you would expect, outstanding facilities here at the University.
Our superbly equipped teaching laboratories and studios contain industry-standard equipment with state-of-the-art software, hardware and networks where you can work on interactive web and multimedia material, graphics, animation, video, sound, virtual reality, e-commerce, databases, special effects and games programming and design.
Our Computer Games labs have quad processor PCs installed with current games development environments, state of the art 3D graphics cards, XBOX 360s and Playstation 3s.
We have three network labs: one that contains the cabling, infrastructure and the switch components that make up most modern networks and the other two with desktop PCs providing a wide range of Windows, Unix and Linux operating systems and a comprehensive set of network design and analysis software.
Through our partnerships with the School of Sound Recording and Futureworks, both in Manchester, you will have access to technical resources for hands-on experience in audio engineering, film and TV audio post production, video, music, film and radio production.
As a North West university we are close to what is set to be the focus of UK developments in the creative industries sector – MediaCityUK in Salford. Scheduled for 2011, MediaCityUK will include five BBC departments as well as a whole range of digital and creative businesses on the 200 acre site in Salford Quays. It will be the UK's first designated digital and creative community and it is estimated that it will lead to the creation of more than 10,000 jobs, many of them in the creative sector.
The opportunities are out there. Now have a look at the courses we offer and find out more about how we can give you the skills and knowledge to make the most of those opportunities.
