Punk comes to Bolton

The University of Bolton has been given an amazing opportunity to contribute to the prestigious international, ‘Design Manchester’ festival for the very first time, having been chosen to represent the ’regions’ of Greater Manchester for the event. Malcolm Garrett, organiser and co-founder of Design Manchester, and a revered hero of the design and music worlds with close links to MMU and Manchester School of the Art, approached Professor Paul Hollins and Sam Johnson, Head of the University of Bolton School of the Arts, with an invitation to host the international exhibition, ‘Time’s Up’, originally presented in Paris earlier this year.

Focussing on the seminal Punk band Buzzcocks, the exhibition looks at their early years and is being displayed in the Studio Gallery, the very spot where Buzzcocks performed their first gig 41 years ago on the 1st of April 1976 in what was then the Bolton Institute of Technology.
