The equality act 2010 outlines that it is against the law to discriminate, victimise or harass any individual or group due to them having or believed to have a particular protected characteristic, be associated with an individual or group with a particular protected characteristic or complaining about any instance of bullying, victimisation, harassment or discrimination.

- Sexual Orientation
How the University approaches this;
The University is committed to equality of opportunity, this includes the equality of opportunity to all individuals with or without any of the protected characteristics. The University expects that all staff and students regardless of their characteristics to contribute towards the elimination of discrimination and harassment. The University has several policies in place to help achieve this, such as the Equal Opportunities Policy.
The University goes above and beyond the legal compliance of the Equality Act 2010 and makes every effort to eliminate all types of harassment and discrimination in every aspect of the University. There are regular opportunities to learn about different cultures at the University, including the annual Celebrating Diversity Day which was a daylong event in which everyone was able to celebrate all aspects of the diverse community here at the University.
