Tell us about what you do?
I am currently employed by St.Vincent's Housing Association as a Community Projects Officer. My role involves Managing the Farnworth UCAN Community Centre and all the centre projects and staff. I have been employed by them for 18 months, firstly as their Percent for Art Coordinator, which has lead to my being promoted to CPO. In my spare time I also take on opportunities and projects as a free lance artist, working with diverse communities and Schools.
How did you start?
I applied for the role of Percent for Art Coordinator while I was studying for my MA in Public Art at the University, this qualification enabled me to fulfil the requirements of the role and also to work as a free lance Sculptor and public Artist.
What is the highlight of your career?
Being promoted to CPO which has given me a great deal of extra responsibility. I am gaining experience in the field of project management on a daily basis and I am enjoying being involved with a wider range of varied projects now, not just arts based.
What are your fondest memories of being at the University of Bolton/Institute?
I completed both my Degree in Visual Arts (where I specialised in sculpture) and my MA in Public Art at Bolton, which has lead to extensive opportunities including my first public sculpture being installed last summer in Moses Gate. I had a great relationship with staff at the University and have made some life long friends and contacts in my field.
Tell us about any new or recent projects you are developing?
As a free lance artist I am currently taking part in a large project in Sparth in Rochdale, where I will be creating aluminium etched panels to be installed and fixed onto knee rails outside the local community centre. This will be done with extensive consultation from the local community. In my role as CPO I manage the current projects and apply for funding to develop new initiatives for the c entre, including a Driving Project for the community and refugees, ESOL and IT classes, UCAN Feel Fitter classes which encompasses healthy walks, weight management and healthy Eating. We run Counselling sessions for the community, as well as providing customer care and sign posting information and referrals to many a gencies, including the Citizens Advice and Employment agencies. My role is very varied on a day to day basis as well as extremely challenging.
